From Rugby to Weights – A Lifelong Fitness Obsession
My fitness journey began in 1999 at age 15 when I first picked up weights to improve my rugby performance. What started as a way to get stronger on the pitch quickly became a lifelong dedication. The gym wasn’t just a place to train—it became my sanctuary, a space where I built not just muscle, but mental toughness, discipline, and a relentless drive to push my limits. Over the years, I’ve experimented with different training styles—from powerlifting and bodybuilding to functional fitness and endurance sports—giving me a well-rounded understanding of what it takes to achieve real, sustainable results.
Balancing Fitness with Life’s Demands
For most of my career, I worked in event catering—an industry known for gruelling, unpredictable hours. I know first hand how easy it is for fitness to take a backseat when work, family, and social commitments pile up. And as we age, the challenges only grow: metabolism slows, recovery takes longer, and motivation can wane. It’s a struggle I’ve faced myself, which is why I’m so dedicated to making fitness accessible, enjoyable, and effective for my clients—no matter how busy life gets.

When I turned 40, I took a hard look at my life and realised I wanted more than just a job—I wanted a purpose. That’s when I decided to become a personal trainer, turning my lifelong passion into a way to help others. Whether your goal is to shed a few pounds and feel more confident, regain mobility, or take on an endurance challenge (like the road cycling sportifs I’ve recently embraced), I’m here to guide you. All of my personal training services are now available in the sports and conditioning gym at Musselburgh Rugby Football Club. This excellent facility is well equipped and is a wonderful quiet location to train clients. You do not require to be a member of the club to train with me there but you can join for a nominal fee if you wish to use the gym in your your own time.
